Blocked inventory locations

Hi everyone.

We have a need to block certain inventory locations so sales orders does not reserve stock against the locations.

The locations that should be blocked is Returns, Receiving, and Binning.

The stock gets received on a scanner (advanced warehouse management) and gets registered on the system. From receiving it gets picked into the binning location (stage). From the binning location the items gets picked by the binner to the warehous bin location where the sales picking should be from.

The problem we are facing is that when a sales order is created for a item which only has stock in receiving/binning/returns, the system reserves the stock from there and work is created for the sales picker to pick from those locations.

We have set up and tested the locations with the 'output blocked' options and still the system reserves the stock from those locations.

What setup is needed for the release to warehouse batch job from the sales order to exclude those locations (we have tried manually excluding them on the batch job query).

Any help will be appreciated.

    Hello Willem,

From your reseravtion hierarchy, the reservation is done using teh inventory dimensions above the location; location is only reserved when the work is created.  So you will not be able to exclude an item from reservation unless you use these <above location> dimension, more likely the inventory Status.

So you would need to receive using an inventory status and change it during the last put or when it is in the location to the inventory status that is used for sales reservation.

    Regards,

For clients that have processes like this, I've always had a batch job running that sets all inventory in the "non-pickable" locates to something other than the default "Available" inventory status.  Rather, run the "Change Inventory status" job in batch every minute and have it set all inventory in locates receiving / binning / returns to inventory status "pending".  Then have a second batch job running every minute that sets all inventory in bin locates to "available".

You should get the result you desire, that sales orders don't reserve to the Receiving / Binning / Returns locates.
