New Word Templates - Can't get address1_composite to work

I'm creating some Word templates in CRM 2016 online for Accounts. I tried to map the field address1_composite but it just shows as blank for records that have data.

Has anyone gotten this to work? I've seen an article someone wrote where they were able to get it to work. I can't figure out what's missing.

    Hi Houston, you will need to map the address fields individually, as far as used the composite is only used to display on forms

    Well that would explain it, but I see this as being a big issue as more people use this new feature, given that it's much easier to apply the composite field, and less likely people just want some components of the address to show only.
