There is a built in merge option that you can perform from the grid view.

If you select two accounts/contacts and select merge from the command bar you will see a dialog that allows you to select fields from both sides. The merged record is deactivated and any related records are moved to the record being merged into.

@Scott. If we wanted to have a process (workflow/plug-in) triggered when a merge happens.  What would be the event/field that we could use to have a workflow triggered after a merge process completes?

    Hi,

You would need to register your plugin/workflow on state change of the record and check to see if it is deactivated the 'merged with' master attribute s set which will be populated with the record that is still active.

    Hope this helps

    Scott,

A variation of the prior question is,  if we want to have a process (workflow/plug-in) triggered BEFORE a merge happens, what would be the event/field that we could use to have a workflow/plugin triggered before a merge?  Thanks.
