Make text field clickable and open file explorer

I've got a CRM field which holds the path to a network folder, and want the user to be able to click this and file explorer open at that location.  I've found several posts online which discuss something similar but which are quite old and don't seem to work.  I'm using CRM Online.

I believe this could be done using a web resource.  Could anyone share the method, and code, they've used to achieve this?

TIA

It's browser security - you probably can't bypass it:

    Hi Paul,

I followed the instructions at http://blog.zealots.solar/?p=54, and everything seems to work but clicking on the icon link does nothing.  On Chrome F12 debugging shows an error : Not allowed to load local resource: file://SERVERPATH

Is this an issue you had?

As you said you have to use web resource.

I believe this is the guide I followed to get this to work:

    blog.zealots.solar

It worked after playing around with it. I don;t use it right now however, as I'm using Attachment Extractor.

Thanks for the reply Keyur.  This is what we have currently but CRM allways adds http:// to the link so tries to open it in a browser.  I want to open the file location in a windows file explorer.  The file locations are network paths, i.e. \\server\share\directory

    Hi ,

You can create the text field and set format as URL.

Please check this URL :  http://www.powerobjects.com/2014/10/23/how-to-create-url-text-field-using-javascript-dynamics-crm/

    Thanks,

    keyur shah.
