Just wondering if you can integrate both one's online sandbox and production instance to the same SharePoint server. If so is this a really bad idea? Are the two connections segregated in such a way that despite being connected to the same production instance of SharePoint? Can you test/demo things in one's sandbox instance without negatively effecting the way said SharePoint server works with the production instance.

You should be able to use same SharePoint for Production as well as for Sandbox instances.
In order to use same SharePoint and keeps things separate from production
1.Create one team site for each crm instance
2.While configuring Sharepoint in crm, make sure you are using correct Teamsite url to configure
