Zetadocs Express Addin unable to open docs without Internet Explorer

As Internet Explorer is being discontinued later in the year, we have started disabling it in pcs. An issue we discovered though is Zetadocs Express addin is unable to open any documents without IE. Nothing happens. We raised it with Equisys, who informed us of the below KB.

https://www.equisys.com/Support/Technotes/info-documents-in-factbox-open-in-internet-explorer

Basically, they have no solution for it. We have tried a few workarounds (ie hacks) to try and hijack the call and force it to open in a PDF client, or Edge browser, but to no avail. It seems that it is very hard coded to use the IE browser. I wonder if anyone has found a workaround for this at all?

We are using NAV 2018 first release, with the Windows client.

I have the same question (0)

    Bruce,

I am not a technical person but have you connected with Equisys on what they are doing for this? Here is a link:

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,

    Steve

Thanks Steve.  Yes, we are in maintenance with Equisys so I raised it with them and they were only able to provide the FAQ above, basically saying there is no choice but to use IE.  I raised it through our NAV partner to MS and they confirmed that the call to use IE is coded deep inside the .NET wrapper that the addin uses and it can't be changed.  I think MS will have to make a change to either use Edge, or allow specification of browser to use as they are the ones discontinuing IE.  It affects not just Zetadocs but any other addin using that .NET warapper.

So in the meantime I posted here in the hope someone had a workaround, even a hack I would take at this point.

    Bruce,

Hopefully someone technical will reply back... I think, you might have to ask, the Zetadocs basic version, not Express, might work outside IE but not sure.

    Thanks,

    Steve

    Hi Bruce,

We've taken a further look into this and we have produced an update which gets around IE no longer being in support. We've made a change to the feature so that it uses the windows default application, rather than the in-built NAV command. For further information, we have the following technote: www.equisys.com/.../fix-unable-to-open-documents-in-zetadocs-factbox-without-internet-explorer-installed

You can find the update on our update page: www.equisys.com/.../Updates.aspx

Not sure if you will get notification of this forum post, so I will see if I can reach out via email as well.

    Cheers,

    Ben
