Document Management on Opportunity Products

Is there anyway to get Document Management on Opportunity Products?  I went to activate it, and the system said it could not because Opportunity Products does not have a Primary Field.   I checked my entity settings, and while the Display Name is blank, the Name is productidname.

I see that Order Product and Quote Product are the same way.

I'm assuming there is no way around this?  I want to be able to use the Opportunity Product in a more robust way.  We make custom products and an opportunity may have more than one custom product.  Rather than merge all the details into one Opportunity, I want to use the opportunity product to store the individual details.

I thought about a custom product entity, called RFQ Products, to replace the Opportunity Products, but then I lose the direct link from the Opportunity product to a Quote when created, which I also wish to keep to save my engineer's time when creating a quote. Any Suggestions?

I have the same issue. Did you find a solution in the meantime?

NOPE. doesn't appear possible.    Would require significant customizations of a custom opp product, and then rewiring all the functionality to point to this new opp product instead of the old vanilla one, and even then we weren't sure if that would work the way the opp products are hardcoded in to quotes.  We gave up and are going to just build this out in a separate standalone tool.
