Install Access 64 bit runtime with Office 2016 32 bit installed when installing Management Reporter 2012 CU 16

I have tried to run the 64 bit installation of MS Access runtime in passive mode but am greeted with this message "Office 16 click-to-run extensibility component installed. Please uninstall Office 2016 32 bit to continue." Is there something else I can try without having to completely uninstall Office 2016 32 bit?

Is there another reason why MR needs Access? I just had an issue with MR where it would not initialize. Reconfiguring Change Tracking got it to initialize but when a user went to run a report from a workstation they got the usual "Microsoft Access Drtiver Microsft ACE.OLEDB is not registered message". Installing 64 bit Access on the server corrected that issue.

Has anyone found a solution for this yet? I have a program which connects with an excell database but it won't let me connect because I have 32 bit office and the program is 64 bit.

    Hi Richard,

The MR Configuration Console will not stop you from installing the services or deploying a data mart/legacy provider if the Access Database Engine is not installed. It will give you a warning that is missing, but you can click Next to bypass the warning. Keep in mind that the Access Database Engine is required if you are going to do one of the two things I specifically mentioned above, otherwise error(s) will occur when performing one of those processes.

Here's a screenshot of the Prerequisite Validation page which will give you the warning, and the Next button is highlighted which you can click on to skip the installation.

    Thanks!

True, the MR setup is going to tell you the Access library component is missing,  but I've always ignored that, since I know it's not required for my use of MR...

That is very strange. Every MR install I have ever done has always checked for the Access engine as part of the prerequisite. Perhaps there is a button I am overlooking that allows you to bypass it? I do not use MR very often. Only when client insists.

    Hi Richard,

That pretty strange.  Aside of the first setup of MR 2.0 where I need the FRx transfer assistant,  I've never been re-installing the Acces library, even after upgrading and moving to a new server ..

No users will be using this box. I only need to get MR installed and it won't install without Access being there.

    Hello Richard,

Béat is correct. It is a limitation of Microsoft Office that you cannot install both the 32-bit and 64-bit components of Microsoft Office on the same computer. Another article which discusses this is:

2269468 You receive the error message "You cannot install the 64-bit version of Office 2010 because you have 32-bit Office products installed"

    support.microsoft.com/.../EN-US

It is generally not supported to use the "passive" switch as it can lead to other problems down the road, and I believe this option is not supported by the Microsoft Office support team for a production environment. Also, MR does require that the Access Database engine version matches the OS architecture as well as the MR version (all 32-bit or all 64-bit based on the OS).

Note that you only need the Access Database Engine installed for MR if you plan to:

    1. Complete the FRx Migration Wizard to migrate reports from FRx

    2. Design reports which pull data from an Excel spreadsheet

You do not need the Access Database Engine just to export reports to Excel -- this is a feature built into MR.

    A couple of questions:

    i. Is this server used by end-users who run Microsoft Office or is this server only used for running the MR services? If no end users will be running Office from the server, you could uninstall Office and install only the needed Access Database Engine (if you need to do one of the items listed above).

ii. Do you need to complete only the Migration Wizard and then have no plans to link to an Excel spreadsheet? If so, you could uninstall Office, install the required Access Database Engine which matches the OS version, complete the migration, uninstall the Access Database Engine and install Office.

    Thanks!

    Hi Richards,

I don't think so.. Office doesn't like it when a 32-bits & 64-bits setup are attempted to be installed side-by-side..

Some people said in the past was doable, but I think those days are gone..
