Where to start - Development & BI Integration

Posted on by 860

Im a developer and just starting to look at integrating with GP by importing data into a reporting system we have.  Basically I need to grab a list of expenses for a specific GL number.  Seems reasonable enough, but Ive dug around enough to know the tables are rather cryptic.  Then I discovered the web services that GP provides.  We are on 2010 and plan to upgrade to 2013 soon, but for now its 2010.

This sounds exactly like what I need for getting my list of expenses for a specific GL account

By the way, this link seems "corrupted" or mangled.

Regarding getting larger blocks of information out of GP, I think I will end up having to hit the underlying tables directly.  Anyone care to share some references for getting data out of the tables?  How about my specific example - getting a list of expenses for a specific gl account (and date range) ?

thanks.

The answers provide so far are excellent.  Here are some other options to consider some are my own topics others are not.

    1. Have you deployed out the canned Excel reports for GP?  I have a blog post on the process here jonathanpcox.com/.../deploying-excel-reports-in-dynamics-gp-2013

2.Have you deployed the canned SQL Reports for GP?  I have a blog post on it here jonathanpcox.com/.../deploying-excel-reports-in-dynamics-gp-2013-2

3.Have you deployed the canned SSAS cubes for GP?  I jonathanpcox.com/.../deploying-the-gp-2013-r2-analysis-cubes

    4. www.gptablereference.com This is an excellent source of detail on columns in each table for each series in GP.

    5. There is a free version of JET Reports which also provides GP reporting in Excel.  You would need to google / bing it.

These are what I used to start learning the in & out of producing reporting information in GP.  I hope this helps.

    Hi ShiftBit,

Gosh, at this point I think I need to promote my book. I wrote a book that will explain the basics of how GP is structured and how to interpret the tables. Check it out, it might be just what you need to help you understand the GP Universe:

    Kind regards,
