Are you installing from an installation package or a install from disk? Are you sure you have the correct SQL server\Instance name for your environment? You can always double check another machine to see what the ODBC connection for GP2013 is configured to use, if you don't have access to the database server.
Make sure you have SQL Server Browser service running on the SQL server.
Where do you try to install GP2013 ? on the server or on a workstation ?
I saw something like this a few weeks ago with a Dynamics GP 2015 install. Everything was set up correctly, we use a checklist to make sure it is. I was able to ping the SQL Server, but the Server\Instance of SQL was not showing in the drop down list when I attempted to manually configure the ODBC connector Great Plains relies on.
Bumping the SQL Services on the machine fixed the issue. You may want to try restarting SQL Services on the database server.
I was putting wrong server name.found it under Object explorer details
It works now.
Thanks
