Solution Versions

Hi,

How do you keep different versions of the same unmanaged solution separate within CRM?

For example, if you were to create a solution that adds fields to the account entity and subsequently create a new version of the same solution (1.0.1) with some minor updates to the fields, the changed made in the 1.0.1 solution will overwrite anything that is within the original solution.

How would you go about rolling back to version 1.0.0 if the original version is now the same as 1.0.1. Is it best practice to export a solution after publishing so that you can import at a later date if needed? Would importing version 1.0.0 overwrite the changes applied by the 1.0.1 solution?

I suppose this would also be applicable if you were to use the same entity in two separate solutions. The changes made in either solution, after publishing, would overwrite the other.

Thanks.

    Hi,

You can't keep different version of the un-managed solution in CRM, the best option is to export your solution on every version increase so that you can import it back to crm in case you want to rollback to old version.

Yes, installing un-managed solution will overwrite the changes back to the solution version that you will install.

You could also use different environment to make solution release process easily depending on the resources you have.

Please check this post, it will help you: ayazahmad.wordpress.com/.../solutions-release-management-crm-2011

    Thanks
