Web Services to Excel Error: The odata.context URL is invalid

Hi All,

Since yesterday, we appear to be getting a consistent error when using OData Web Services from BC to Excel.

If we are to Browse Excel > Data > Get Data > Other sources > From Odata Feed and specify any of the Web Services from BC, we encounter the same error consistently.

See below screenshot:

Has anyone else encountered this recently? Looked online and the only suggestion that related to our scenario suggested clearing of the cache.

This was actioned but the issue is not resolved.

Please advise!

Thanks

James

I had a similar issue once with Jet Reports. Try deleting the web service and adding it again and republishing. Try it in the browser before Excel

This is affecting our demo tenant and our live production tenant. Its also affecting all the web services, even the generic ones.

It doesn't seem to accept our credentials when accessing the URL in the browser.

Ive tried deleting a web service and re-publishing, however we are getting the same error:

    {"error":{"code":"Authentication_InvalidCredentials","message":"The server has rejected the client credentials.  CorrelationId:  5ce5578d-f29b-43ae-a69e-bae56523d9fc."}}

    Hello,

Feel free to raise it to Microsoft via your partner or CSP so we can look into it.

    Thanks.

Web Services to Excel Error: The odata.context URL is invalid
    Hi,

I have managed to resolve the error by doing the following:

    Clear Excel's Power Query Cache:

    • Open Excel and go to the Data tab.

    • Click Get Data > Query Options.

    • In the options window, select Global > Data Load.

    • Under "Data Cache Management Options," click Clear Cache to reset it to 0 bytes. (You can set it back to a higher value later if needed, but keep it at 0 during troubleshooting or development.)

    • Close all Excel instances completely (check Task Manager to ensure no background processes remain).

    • Restart Excel, then try reconnecting to your OData URL or using the BC add-in again.

This error usually happens after a Business Central update when the OData V3 endpoint is no longer supported. Make sure you’re using the OData V4 URL from the Web Services page in BC when connecting from Excel. If you already use V4 and the error persists, clear cached credentials in Excel/Windows and try again. If it still fails, raise a support request through your admin as it may be a tenant-specific issue.
