My ERP has run for 6 months.

Now Accountant wants to use more Shortcut Dimension. 8 shortcut dimensions were set up so I cannot add more. I intent to change DIM-ENTITY to new one.

Is there any risk should I need to concern or system will work well even this change ?

Hi There - To be honest, adding so many dimensions can create "analysis-paralysis" for a user doing ME/YE reporting. While microsoft gives you the possibility to add n-number of dimensions, whereas the shortcut dimensions are just 8. You can change the short-cut dimension, just ensure to not delete the DIM-ENTITY from the Dimension Master. According to the best of my knowledge, there shouldn't be any issues to worry about, I'd leave that for comments to other community members

On another note: If you want to  not change the shortcut dimension, you can just add a new dimension along with it's values in the dimension master and ask the accountant to select this new dimension from the "dimension" button provided by MS on each card & line page

    Thanks Narang,

I checked and saw it worked as I expected when I created new Dimension and replaced shortcut dimension.

    Hi Peter,

I completely concur with Narang. Business Central allows you to create an unlimited number of dimensions, and you can change the shortcut dimension from 3 to 8 whenever required. Global dimensions are numbered 1 and 2, as you know.

In some cases, changing the shortcut dimension may cause the earlier dimension to not appear in the GL entry table records, although it might be necessary for accurate reporting

How to export the GL reports with all the dimension you can view below blog for better understanding:

I hope this will helpful to you.

    Thank you
