What are "Name" and "Owner" on custom entity?

For the life of me, I can't figure out what data these fields represent?  When I create a Case, it's requiring this field.  I have no idea what to put there.

Also, how can you display the system-generated iD for the case on the Case form?

Name and owner among a handful of fields that are created by default whenever a Custom entity is created. The owner is usually the person who creates the records for the entity. If the entity should not be owned by a particular person or team, you can create the entity and set all records to be owned by the Organization. Then you will not have an Owner field.

The name field is the unique name for each record. IT can be made optional. It is recommended that you fill this field out on any new record as the name will also be the field that you reference in lookups to your custom entity.

Many I use a business rule or workflow to automate the name field - for example, I might concatenate the Name from "Company name + Date Created"

As far as the case Id - Are you talking about the GUID of the record or the Case Number? To add the Case Number, edit the form and add the Case Number field to the form.

Not sure what is the relationship of your custom entity and case, please provide details.

Regarding Name- it is primary field unless you won't change name of this field while creating entity, owner represent owner of that particular entity record.

Thanks, Brian.  I dove head-first into CRM without any training and it has been slow going , but I'm getting there with all the help of the community.
