different packaging when receiving the items

Hello everyone,

My client would like to know the feasibility of the following operation:

Item A is purchased in packages of 12 units, so the configuration is as follows in the unit conversion: 12ea = 1 package.

the supplier without warning changes the packaging for the article. therefore at the next reception we receive 1 package but which contains only 10 units.

How can we in D365 SCM create a logistic variant of the same article which allows the good reception of the packages of 10 units as well as the packages of 12 units.

the supplier will now only send 10-unit packages but there are still 12-unit packages that need to be tracked and sold.

Thank you all for your feedback.

Sincerely

I have the same question (0)

Are you using advanced warehousing for the book-in process?

Is the supplier producing the stock in predefined unites per packages or can they vary the packaging all the times ? E.G. they could produce randomly different packages sizes and therefore having a combination without any control or are there just 2 in the example you mentioned?

To confirm, is the purch unit for the ITEM A PACKAGE?

is the stock unit for ITEM A EA?

    Hello Alessandro,

Yes, normally the advanced WMS is enabled in the system.

And all our products are tracked by lot numbers too.

Normally the supplier defines a number of units in the package in agreement with his us, it can happen for some reason to increase or reduce the number of units in the package (but not very often) and as we buy only by the unit "Package" it can be a problem at the reception.

    the stock unit is package.

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Ouch.. I would have used EA as stock unit and built several additional units called packof10 or packof12 adding all the conversions.

Then I would have setup a UOM sequence group ID for these products adding EA,PACKOF10,packof12 so that you can receive the stock depending of the type of package.

As for the PURCH UNIT I would have agreed a Purch Unit in EA to avoid complications.

But as you use package as Stock UNIT which would convert in 12 EA this complicates the scenario and I cannot really support further.

Hopefully you get more support on this.

    Hello alessandro,

Thanks a lot for your help,

I had an idea in mind, it's to work with generic products and use the dimension product conguration to create the different configurations but it's going to be too complicated for the business to manage in the future.

We'll wait a few minutes answers from other people in the community,

    Thanks again.

What if your supplier sells you pallet with mixed packaging ? Using configuration you would need to split PO lines based on the pack size which I believe is a nightmare to manage.

Using as stock unit EA it implies that you would have your stock volumes correct and the operator would have a variety of additional unit of measures (pack10) ,(pack20) or EA to be used for the book in process as well as other inbound activities such as internal movements.

    Hello Allessandro,

in truth, this happens when the supplier changes the packaging of his article. so in the future there will be no more packages of 12 but only packages of 10.

I have tried to convince them to change to the unit for the stock but they don't agree.

Well, I would push back as or you create a new product for each different packaging or you manage this in D365 in a flexible way by using a more granular unit of measure which would be EA.

However, if SAs can comment on this interesting requirement  to check if there are better options..

    :)
