CRM 365 online vs on premise - use for field service

Hi,

We are going to upgrade our current CRM 2015 on premise to either CRM 365 Online or 365 On premise. Further more we need to use the field service functions.

Can we use CRM 365 on premise? I can't find much documentation for this. So i wan't to be sure that we can use 365 on premise and it's not discounted if we chose this.

Hi Adrian, do you know if there are differences between the Field service module you would get if you were on prem v9.1 or if you were on CRM Online?

    Thanks, Lesley

It's not discontinued (for now, and I would definitely agree with the "vision" note above.. which transforms into whether we really want to use on-prem version these days.. though sometimes we still have to), but keep in mind that Field Service on-prem will have to be licensed through the dual rights - there is no separate on-prem licence as far as I know.

It is on-prem is not going to be discontinued for now but it releases for new updates and versions will be at least 6 month behind the online version.

The speed of Online has a lot of dependencies.  What is your Network speed to the outside world?    If you pipe is small connection will be slow depending on that and how much others are utilizing.  You need to work with your ISP on that.

    Hi,

I misspelled my sentence I meant discontinued not discounted in the near future... There is no point upgrading to on premise if Microsoft will discontinue this in the near future. I don't know why online is so slow. We tested the response time to the nearest server and it is significant slower than our on premise. (On premise 1-2ms, online 25ms). This mean that clicking, changing records etc etc will be much slower..

    Hi rskadk1,

I have not heard anything about upcoming on-premises discounts, and I do not think that they are likely to happen in the near future. Microsoft has a very strong focus on the cloud right now, and online instances align clearly with that vision. Read this article comparing online and on-premises so that you can make an informed decision about what to go with.

The online instance should not be slow on most setups. However, it might be slow on certain combinations of internet browser, computer specifications, and internet connections. Online instances tend to be the best option for most companies, but they may not be the best option for you.

Thanks for the answer. Do you know anything about if the on premise in going to be discounted in the near future? I have installed a 30 days demo of the online version. And it's very slow compared to the current on premise installation..

    Hi rskadk1,

It is possible to use field services on online and on-premises instances. You can find more information about the on-premises installation process here.

However, I strongly recommend choosing online over on-premises, given the choice.

You can download it here if you have perms  mbs.microsoft.com/.../365fieldservicedownloads

The only thing I would mention is that Microsoft's vision is all Online.   Most ON-Prem releases are 6 month to a year behind.
