how does mixed licenses work in BC

Previously, BC doesn't allow mixed essential and premium licenses in one tenant. Now MS documentation says this becomes possible and I'm wondering if anyone know how it works.

If a tenant has 2 users. One is on essential license and another on premium. Is one user able to use the production module features and the other user is unable to see bom, route, production orders etc?

Thanks
I have the same question (0)

No, that's not the case. From here:

a Premium license user can sign in to a company where the User Experience field is set to Essentials on the Company Information page. However, the Premium user can't use any of the features that the Premium license provides. This doesn't work in the opposite direction. Users who have an Essentials license can't sign in to a company where the User Experience is set to Premium on the Company Information page.

Hi, Functionality is not determined by user licenses, but by User Experience in Company Information. If your environment contains an essential license, you cannot switch to Premium, so the situation you are talking about will not happen.

    Hope this helps as well.
    Thanks.

so if a company needs manufacture module, all users need to be on premium license in the same company. The mixed license module works for the case where more than one companies are set up so differently licensed users can use the proper one.

Just to be very specific here, in order for a Mixed-Use tenant to be viable there has to be two (2) or more Companies in the environment.  The Premium licensed Users could be used on any company.  The Essentials license can only work in companies where the Company Information > "User Experience" is set to "Essential".

Since Manufacturing (BOM, Routes, Prod. Orders, etc.) is only available in the Premium User experience, only Premium license Users would be able to access that Company.

Hope this helps clarify how the licensing works.
