direct deposit bank number (routing number)

Posted on by 105

I have a customer using payroll direct deposit. One of their employees has a routing number (bank number) that begins with zero. When they process the ach file, the preceding zero is stripped off and they have to manually fix the file to add the missing zero.  Is there any way to make GP handle the routing number as a string field so the zero won't be removed?

Payroll's ACH is all preconfigured and there is no way to change the format that I can determine. At any rate, I believe this issue was user error, as she changed the employee's bank number to add the preceding zero AFTER she had run the payroll. I suspect it will work fine going forward.

We operate in GP 2010 sp2.  While we do not work with payroll, we do utilize ACH payments to vendors which is a file submitted to our bank via an upload.  The bank then makes the payments out of our account based on the data provided.  That data is put into a specified format from our bank.  My assumption is your organization's issue lies with the format setup for ACH payments (but maybe the payroll side is very different).  For vendor ACH, the format is found at the checkbook level under Financial>Checkbook>EFT Bank>Payables Options 9the window is called Checkbook EFT Payables Options.  On this screen, at the top right is a field File Format.  By clicking on the blue arrow or using the magnifying glass to choose the format used for the payroll, it will launch/open the EFT File Format Maintenance window.  This is where the design/setup is which puts GP data into our bank's specified format in order for the bank to convert it and make the payments as instructed.  One of these fields references the ABA number for the vendor (I assume it would work similar for payroll, but I cannot be certain).

    Best regards,
