View C/AL Code in Navision 2017

Posted on by 241

Hello everyone,

I have Dynamics NAV 2017 and I am trying to access the C/AL code of a page from the object designer. I am logged in as an admin user. I'm able to view C/AL code of a Report, Query and XMLPort. But I'm not able to view C/AL code of a Table, Page and Codeunit. When I hit design button in case of codeunit following error comes:

I'm already a super user.  Which permissions should I have? or Is this a license issue?

Thank you in advance.

You can refer to this blog on how to get your Business Central development enviornment:

    http://bc365.co/2021/12/05/bcgetstarted/

And here are lots of information about how to get started AL development in Business Central.

No, if it is SaaS, no development license is required, which is very different from NAV, and the Object range (50000~99999) on SaaS is also free.

Hi, using VS Code, AL Language extension, AZ AL Dev Tools/AL Code Outline extension, then you can open symbol files directly. But this requires connecting to a development environment and downloading the symbol files first.

Here is a simple way, download the installation package of BC On-Premise, then find the application folder "~Dynamics.365.BC.36700.W1.DVD 19.5\Applications"

    Download: https://yzhums.com/23041/

    pastedimage1647231144504v5.png

After extracting each zip file, you can see the source code.

    "~Dynamics.365.BC.36700.W1.DVD 19.5\Applications\BaseApp\Source\Base Application.Source.zip"

Note: The standard source code of BC is not only in one extension, there are many Microsoft extensions in the system.

    Hope this will help.

    Thanks.

Hi Inge, it sounds interesting, may I ask is there any documentation to verify that we can see the codes ourselves? Thank you.

And if you upgrade to Business Central online you will have free access to the source code and you can develop customization with out any additional cost. So you should consider upgrading to the latest version.
