Revision Control on Items

Hello, we are working in a sandbox environment set to premium experience getting prepared for going live. We are a manufacturer of electronic medical devices and most of our items are under revision control. I do not find revision levels on the item card. There is version control available for Production BOM and Routing which is similar to revision control. We have revision control on purchase items so the version control on BOM and Routing settings will not work for the purchase items. Is there anything on the item card that can be used for revision control of items? (I am currently trying out attributes to see if they will work for our requirement.) We do need the revision of the items to print on sales orders, purchase orders, and production orders. Would appreciate suggestions on how we can accomplish this in requirement in BC.

    You can use:

    • item variants
    • item lot numbers to differentiate revisions

Alternatively, you can create a new item card for each revision.

Unfortunately, this functionality is not available in the standard environment. Master data in BC, such as Customer, Vendor, Item, GL Account, etc., do not have version control.
If you just want to detect modifications, you can use the Change Log function or Field Monitor function.
Hope the following can give you some hints.

once the item has transaction posted to it, you won't be able to change certain key setting on that item. I agree with the option to create a new item with a naming conversion to reflect the versioning of similar items. this is commonly used for products sharing similarities. Variants and skus are used for different purposes and have the same costing as the master item card.
