Migrate from SugarCRM to Microsoft Dynamics 2011

Hello,

I wonder whether it is possible to migrate all data from SugarCRM to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011. Since it turns out that I can export Accounts, Contacts and some other stuff from Sugar into e.g. CSV, this might be ok for import to Dynamics CRM. But a lot of other items arround account history like calls, emails, notes etc... cannot easily be exported from Sugar. Therefore it looks like there is a need to directly connect to the SugarCRM database instead (in my case MySQL) in order to query, map and import the content.

I am not an expert at all to CRM, but from what I surfed arround I figured out that in earlier versions of Dynamics CRM there was a Data Migration Manager which was able to connect to a database. But the new v2011 just has an improved Migration Wizard social.microsoft.com/.../8c9f3525-e543-497d-bed5-7a598a522ac2 which seems to expect source files like CSV.

Long story short, is there any known and officially supported solution for a save import of all data from Sugar CRM to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011? I stumbeled over a software called scribe (www.scribesoft.com/Insight) which claim that they can get this job done... Has anyone any information what's the easiest way to migrate data from Sugar (or any other CRM System) to Dynamics CRM without loosing mainly account/contact history?

Regards, Dieter

    Hi Dieter,

Thanks for your question.  My name is Josh Wells and I am a support engineer on the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Support team.

There are may ways you can achieve the results of doing this.  It depends on how much time you want to spend on this or how much money you want to invest in it.  There are definitely 3rd party solutions that will handle the migration in a more automated fashion, such as Scribe.  However, I would strongly recommend working with a partner that thoroughly understand setting these items up.  From what I've heard, these can be a little tough to jump into.

The other option is to use the Import Data utility natively in the CRM 2011 application.  There are quite a few partners that provide a walk through on how to use this utility.  The social.microsoft.com link provided by Muhammad has some great details about the import data utility.  However, this can be a bit cumbersome as it does require exporting all of the data out into a CSV, txt, or xml file.  Maintaining relationships can be a bit tricky but doable.

It's tough to provide a very detailed explanation of how to migrate this data through the use of the Forums.  My ultimate recommendation is to work with one of our certified partners and they can help you really go through this and save you a lot of time and effort.

    I hope this is helpful.

Thanks to the both of you. Of course, this now not a final solution, but my understanding on how to approach this migration is now definitely better.

If you are familiar with SSIS, it should probably fix the problem because you can directly select the Sugar CRM's database as source in SSIS and extract the data into required destinations like Excel, Flat file or Even a database table

Hi, indeed, in the meantime we have succesfully migrated from SugarCRM to Dynamics 2011. We used Scribe Insight Migrate for this, that's a time period limited Scribe Insight license. It is limited to 60 days I think and costs about 1500 US$.

Finally the migration worked well, but there is someone required with quite good sql skills since we had ot use a lot of quite complex sql statements attached to the migration configuration in order to prepare data as good as possible for merging them together by keeping as much as possible of the information. Additionally there is a nice mapping tool in order to map custom sugar data to custom CRM data. Overall we have spent about 2-3 weeks by learing and configuring the tool. We did about 5-6 six migration s into different CRM organisations till we sorted out most of our issues. The result is quite good, you don't lose to many information, The main inconsistency is with date stamps in general and with emails in particular. We used third-party tools for sugar (Opacus and some other Sugar plugin for Outlook) before in order to manually and automated synch emails of interest into Sugar CRM. Haveing these more or less linked properly in Dynamics CRM was the biggest chalange, and some of them finally got lost. But we managed to successfully migrate and also link somehow to the right contact or account about 25.000 emails, there where about 1000 poorly lnked and about 350 we lost completely due to the fact that we could not figure out their relationship.

As long there is somebody with a quite good sql syntax understanding and fairly good Sugar CRM structure knowledge in charge, I think it would work out. Defintelly doing it by ourselfs was the good decision I think. We thought of hireing somebody for this with good CRM skills, but the main issues are not of any technical matter, but one has to decide which informatio is important, should be transfered which way.... Something an external technical ould not have decided for us.

    Hi Dieter,

Happy to hear that scribe served your purpose.

How about SSIS ? Couldn't you have get your job done by SSIS ??

We didn't look into this option, but I suppose it could have been done the job also.
