Cost estimates and costings report

ReportReport

Hello,
I can’t find official docs explaining how Cost estimates & costings work and how it derives   COSTING → Total cost amount. We’re seeing cost-price fluctuations on both manufactured and purchased items.
Questions:
  1. Does COSTING use posted physical, posted financial/settled, or a mix?
  2. Is the COSTING total as-of dependent (i.e., changes pre/post inventory close/recalc)?
  3. For production, does it include all picking lists + route/indirects, or can some journals be excluded by selection/aggregation?
  4. Best way to reconcile COSTING to Transaction details → Settlements and the End voucher?
  5. how does this report work and when or not to use it ?
Pointers to official documentation or a data-model description would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi,

Can you elaborate on what forms you are looking for the cost amount(s)? The costing depends on the costing model you choose for your items, (BOM + finished goods). You can read more about costing here: Cost management home page - Supply Chain Management | Dynamics 365 | Microsoft Learn

There is more information and examples how the costing methods behave when choosing related topics from the Costing methodologies in the menu.

    Hello André,

I am looking at this report, and we are using planned costs, FIFO, and it's a process manufacturing context
