What is the use of Product Properties in Product Family

Dear all,

I just try to think of an organisation of my product based on product family. Then I have seen that we can assign product properties for a product familly.

What is the exactly used of those product properties in a product family ?

Does it appears somewhere when creating a quote or does it affect something and at which phase are they selected or change by user ?

For instance I have different range of touch screen based on size like 32", 42" and 55". Each of this product is corresponding to a unique product for each screen size. When I create product familly called TOUCH SCREEN, I then start to add a SIze as Properties, but when I assign each screen product to familly, the size has no meaning as the product itslef identify a size.

Any clarification of property use will be helpful

regards

Hi Scott, wonder if you can help on a similar vein please.  I have created product properties on a Product>Then have added the Product to an Opportunity Product record and selected the properties.  I want to report on these properties in PowerBI - where are they stored - the ones picked specifically for that Opportunity Product?  I can't find them anywhere!!!  Thanks in anticipation.

    Sergec,

You still need to create each price list item for each size, which is also needing each individual product to be created.

CRM only does have price enabled by product not by property nor by size nor by family.

And in the quote you can only select product that having a price list.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks.

You would have a product for each size to enable you to have different prices - the product family property for Touch Screen would then have a value set for each size product and the property made read only.

    Hope that makes sense!

    Still one question then.

In case I have a single product in my Touch Screen family and then I define a size properety based on on each touch touch model like 32", 42" and 55".

Each screen type based on the size have different price.

How then the correct price will be affected to a quote based on user selection of Properties ?

I could not see clear figures from that point

    regards

RE: What is the use of Product Properties in Product Family

In your example then the product property would be for reference only and read only since it has an affect on price. Properties that don't have an effect on price such as colour would be editable when added to a record. Ultimately the families and properties are for creating a consistent taxonomy that gives visibility of product specifications.  It could be that your organization doesn't need to use properties if everything is describes by the product name and price - but for organisations that have custom/bespoke orders it is very useful. I hope this helps.
