EDC Software Microsoft Dynamics Online Payment Processing vs. Preferred Aquirer Credit Debit Processing

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Our company currently uses PC Charge for EDC in RMS & would like to explore other options, particularly those which integrate directly through RMS. Can anyone provide a detailed difference between OPP and Pref Aq Credit Debit ?

Is auto batching an option or will it require an add-in ?

Is TYSYS still the only network to process through in RMS (without installing 3rd party software like PC Charge) or is FDC an option ?

Any information would be helpful.

Sorry, have never used the OPP.  They say they do offer a FDC option, so if that's what you are using now, you may be able to switch over to it.

Using the built-in EDC option only communicates with TSYS and then can communicate with other processors but there may be limitations, like no pin-pad debit, or the charges may be higher because of going through TSYS. network and then their own. Some processors like Mercury, have written programs that intercept RMS/EDC communications and routes it to their own processing network

Using PC Charge is no longer PCI compliant because of the way RMS communicates to PCC, so one day your processor may force the change to something else or charge you much higher rate or worst case drop your liability protection for all purchases over xxx dollars.

We, like others here, recommend the Mercury/Retail Realm/Magtek iPAD solution as it works well.  They have put their skin in the game for RMS solutions.  MPS/RR is working on a different device right now, a pad from IDTech that claims to be a more robust device option, but its still a couple of months away I'm told.

    Hi Brian,

We replace a lot of PC Charge setups because of it being so unstable with RMS.  MPS (Mercury Payment System) has different options that you can use for example they have a connector that is installed to basically run your EDC area, but this connector doesn't come with a auto settle batch command.  The one we like the best is the MPS RR connector which stands for MPS (Mercury Payment System) RR (Retail Realm) connector which does have the Auto Settle Batch command.  It is easy to install and configure and once setup it become a set it and forget solution.  You do have the option to just use a MSR swipe to swipe your credit cards or you can purchase the new iPad Magtek MSR swipes with or without Signature Pads.  If you want more information just give me a call and would be happy explain the benefits of using Mercury Payment System.  603-232-4736

    Hope this helps

    Hi Shawn,

We are using RMS 2.0.0155 and PC Charge 5.9.3.

We also have stand alone credit card processing terminals that we owned prior to moving to RMS EDC and PC Charge, which we (fortunately) kept as redundancy.

PC Charge is finicky , to say the least, (though it does have an auto-batch utility) , and we were wondering if the built in RMS EDC and batch processing was any better. It appears that in SO by default in OPP or Pref Aq. one has to manualy settle batches daily (and in a multi-store environment that is not practical), hence the thought of an add-in or script that would perform that task nightly.

Since it is a large task to move 16 or so stores over to a different processing platform we would like to get all the info we can to see whether there is a clear benefit to making a switch, at least from an IT side.

When you say MPS added software - do you mean a seperate handshake program running (ala PC Charge) or an add in to RMS ?

    Thanks,

    Brian Buchanan

    Hi Brian,

Yes TYSYS is the only way to process without a third party software.  MPS (Mercury Payment System) is what we offer our clients.  They teamed up with Retail Realm to add a software to process credit cards with a automatic settling of credit cards.  With the iPad Credit Card Swipe (Not iPad from Apple it's from Magtek) it works pretty well and they also come with a signature capture if requested.  Just wondering what version of RMS and PC Charge are you using.  PC Charge latest version hasn't work for use with RMS.

    Hope this Helps
