Time Zone Issue

Hi everyone,

I am experiencing an issue in a customer. An appointment is created in CRM and after it is created an automatic workflow sends an email to the customer contact with date and time of the appointment.

When the user is not located in the same Time Zone of the Workflow's owner, CRM is sending the email with Workflow's owner time zone, not with user's appointment time zone.

A workaround is release the workflow manually from appointment, this option works ok, but my customer wants to have this option auto.

How can be this process managed?

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Workflows are run by the same user, so the time zone will always be the timezone of the workflow user.

The question is how can you tell the appointee's timezone?

if it's a contact you could create a time zone field on the contact then in your workflow you could check that field.

in your workflow you could do an if statement and then set a different time based on the timezone

    Hi,

This is an issue that I've run into too - the most common solutions are:

    1. You could create a number of workflows - one for each time zone and set the scope of the workflow so that it only runs for the users in that time zone. This approach relies on you having a time zone split by business unit which is sometimes not the case

    2. Create a custom workflow assembly to convert a date to the users' time zone - you can find the user's timezone using the context.InitiatingUserId. - see my blog post here - www.develop1.net/.../User-Impersonation-in-Plugins-Workflow-and-Dialogs.aspx

    Hope this helps,

    Scott
