How do you view how items are being depreciated -

Posted on by 210

For instance I am trying to see how many months an asset is being depreciated by.

Can I change it?

Yes, GP will let you know you've changed a 'depreciation-sensitive' field and ask you if you want to save the changes.  Then, it will give you three choices for recalculating depreciation.  See my blog post here for a quick explanation of each of these three choices - gp2themax.blogspot.com/.../gptip42day-recalculating-depreciation.html.

    Good luck!

If I wanted to change something from 3 Straight Line Orig Life  to 5 years Straight Line Orig life

Do I just change in the box "Original Life in Years" and the system will figure the rest out?

This was very helpful... I was here before however after reading your answer I revisited and discovered you have to select a Book ID before the information actually pops up.

    Thank you!

Ann Marie, you need to look at the 'Book' card.  Go to Fixed Assets>>Cards>>General.  Select an asset.  Click on the Go To button (upper right corner of window).  This window will display all the depreciation-related settings for the asset.

Yes, you can change the depreciable life on the asset but be aware that depreciation may be recalculated by the system if you do so.

    Hope this helps,
