Business Central Developer Associate certification (MB-820)

I have been working as a Business Central technical developer for about 1.5 years, and I’m planning to take the Business Central Developer Associate certification (MB-820). I feel it’s the right time to earn this certification.

For those who have already taken the exam, I’d appreciate your advice: My exam is scheduled in 5 weeks, but I only have 4 weeks available to prepare.

How should I structure my study plan to make the most of my preparation time?

I’m especially interested in any tips on the most important topics to focus on, resources you found helpful, and strategies for effective last-minute preparation.  I’m open to any recommendations.

I have some resources and practice dumps (though I’m not sure if it’s okay to mention this on a Microsoft platform). I’m using them as test exams along with the Microsoft Learn platform to prepare for my certification. If you're interested, I’d be happy to share the same dumps my friend used as practice — he passed his exam just last month.

Use Microsoft Learn and do practice as much as possible.

Note that you can still open and browse Microsoft Learn while doing the exam.

I don't know if the current questions have been updated. I took the exam during the Beta test because I can use MS Learn to search during the exam. As long as I have enough time, I believe you can pass the exam.
For other less popular knowledge points, you can learn some of the following keywords.
    • Technologies for application lifecycle management (ALM), including source control management (SCM) and continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD).

    • Substitute a report

    • Override entitlements with inherent permissions

    • Use a query to create a report

    • Create an onboarding checklist

    • Test applications in Business Central

    • Install and run the Test Toolkit

    • Develop test codeunits and procedures

    • Monitor and analyze telemetry

    • Configure telemetry

    • Create custom telemetry signals

    Thanks.

    Hi

Great timing, I just passed MB-820 which is a solid next step for someone with technical experience in Business Central. With 4 weeks to prepare, you’ll want a focused, structured plan that balances theory, hands-on practice, and mock testing.

Here’s how I’d recommend structuring your study:

Week 1: Foundation & Environment Setup

    Week 2: AL Objects & Page/Table Extensions

    • Focus on tables, pages, enums, reports, and XMLports
    • Practice building and extending objects
    • Key topics:
      • Page types and layouts
      • Report design and layouts
      • XMLport configuration
    • Reference: Develop by using AL objects (35–40%)

Week 3: AL Language & Development Tools

Week 4: Integration & Mock Testing

    • Study API development, OData, and REST integrations
    • Build a sample extension that connects to an external service
    • Take multiple practice exams to identify weak areas
    • Recommended resource: EduSum MB-820 Practice Tests

    Exam Tips

    • The exam has 40–60 questions, 120 minutes, and a passing score of 700/1000
    • Focus heavily on AL object development and integration topics
    • Use the Exam Sandbox to get familiar with the interface

Here’s a helpful breakdown of the MB-820 exam domains:
