I am trying to create the aged AR report in Power BI. I'm able to produce the same data as the Aged AR report when looking at the Customer Ledger Entries table and applying the filters as shown below.
I need to know what happens behind the scenes when I Filter Totals By "Date Filter" as shown below in order to produce the same data, I want the user to be able to input a date in Power BI to filter the same way.
What tables should I be using and how should they be related?
The 'Filter totals by' option applies a date filter to all FlowFields on the page. FlowFields, such as the amount fields, are dynamic calculations based on underlying transactions. When you use this filter, it shows only the transactions that contribute to the FlowField values within your specified date range.
For example, if you set a date filter for the last month, the FlowFields will display totals based only on transactions from that period. This is similar to how you would apply a posting date filter to ledger entry tables in PowerBI.
I've written a detailed blog post about FlowFields that you might find helpful for further understanding here.
