Order Planning - Multiple Locations

Hi

We are using BC with advanced warehouse management and multiple locations.

I have a scenario where we want to ship an item (zero inventory in all locations)  to a customer from location X - sales order has been raised against the customer against location x.

The supply of the inventory into location x with be via a transfer order from location Y, the supply of inventory into location Y will be via a purchase order against an external vendor.

I have created stock keeping units against the relevant item for the two locations, location X replenishment = transfer and the transfer code = location Y; location Y replenishment = Purchase and the Vendor No has been updated to the vendor from who we will purchase the item.

I have then been using the Order Planning process trying to generate the Transfer Order for the move of inventory from location Y to location X, and the purchase order for the purchase of the inventory (as it's currently zero) into location Y.

I am hitting the calculate plan and this is bringing through the demand from the sales order, it is also suggesting the transfer order from location Y to location X and if I click on the Make Orders option this is generated.

I cannot find why/how it is not suggesting to create a purchase order to bring the inventory into location Y

Am I missing something (hope this all makes sense!)

Thanks

Phil

RE: Order Planning - Multiple Locations

    Hi

I've gone through and done as you suggested and 'hey presto', its working as expected now. I assume that i must have had some legacy data somewhere that was causing it not to work but it seems to be resolved now.

Thanks to all who have contributed to the solution

So, your setup looks largely correct. Personally I would make Reordering policy at Y = lot-for-lot. As the inventory is simply passing through this will work. Leave all parameters blank.

Order planning would require you to run it twice. Once to create the TO and then a second time to create the PO as order planning will not daisy chain the supply calculation through all steps.

Planning worksheet should work. However, if you've been playing about with this lots trying to make it work, you may need to clear data to make sure planning runs correctly. The fact that planning / req worksheet is not suggesting the transfer order but does want to create a PO suggests it already sees an existing transfer suggestion somewhere. If not, it simply would not suggest the PO as you have no demand against location Y without it. it may still be on the order planning page. Also, do you have a transfer route setup from X to Y? Order planning is not overly particular about complete data setup, planning and req worksheet are.

Make sure order planning is clear of the TO suggestion before running planning worksheet. Make sure you have no legacy data relating to this item in any req or planning worksheets and then refresh your BC session to clear any cached data.

Re-run planning. It should then work. I have been pulling my hair out at planning not working on previous occasions when I know setup is correct. A refresh of the session is often all that is needed. Especially if you have been changing data settings between runs.

I see you have the Dynamic Low-Level Code turned off.  Can you run the "Calculate Low-Level Code" prior to your next test of the Req./Planning Worksheet?  This is more to do with BOM levels, but doesn't hurt to run it.

I do not see the SKU card for Location X that needs the Transfer, can you send a screenshot of that?

To ensure I am tracking this properly:

    1. Source of Demand = Sales Order (@ Location X on Sales Line)
    2. Replenishment for Location X = Transfer from Location Y
    3. Replenishment for Location Y = Purchase Order to Vendor

You should have one Item (Item No. = ADCE/50/1/US?), with two SKU cards (Loc X and Loc Y).  SKU X = Repl. System = Transfer Order (requires Transfer Route from Y to X), Reorder Policy = Order (could be other things as well).  SKU Y = Repl. System = Purchase, Reorder Policy = Order (could be other things as well).

Planning Worksheet should pickup the Sales Demand and suggest both the Purchase to Location Y and the Transfer from Y to X.  If you don't get this result, you need to check your data.  Did any of these settings get set by an import?  If so, was the validation on?  Sometimes an un-validated value can cause a gap somewhere.

    Thanks

Looks like all setup is correct. Just for test add Location Y into MFG setup and test. In addition, add a lead time for purchase as well.  Also I hope Ben Baxter can suggest some solution.

    and the manufacturing set-up

When I did the requisition worksheet, I did the calculate plan with the following parameters

    Hi

My recommendation is to test step 2, then step 3, then step 4 first.

    1) Can you please post screenshot of Y location? both Planning and Replenishment System

    2) In MFG setup do you have Combine MPS/MRP on?

    3) When you used req worksheet did you have "Respect Planning Parameters for Supply Triggered by Safety Stock" on?

    3) Even if you have no MFG that location plays the role in planning. Do you have all your items in location Y? Just as a test add location Y there and try. Remember to remove it after test.

RE: Order Planning - Multiple Locations

    Hi

I've tried using the requisition worksheet and the planning worksheet - both of these reverse the scenario that i was in - they both suggest the Po now but not the transfer order? Checked the manufacturing set-up but couldn't see a location code in there - we're not actually doing any manufacturing so not sure if this is applicable or not?

RE: Order Planning - Multiple Locations

    Hi

    A few suggestions

    1) Try to use "The Req. Worksheet (Essentials) or Planning Worksheet (Premium) " instead of Order Planning. See Ben Baxter  great explanation here https://community.dynamics.com/business/f/dynamics-365-business-central-forum/446785/assembly-orders-with-sku-and-transfer-orders/1225474#:~:text=Assembly%20Orders%20with,so%20here%20goes%3A

    2) If you have Premium what is the Location Setup in MFG Setup?

I need to test Order Planning to see why it does not suggest PO.

    Thanks

RE: Order Planning - Multiple Locations

    Hi,

I didn't have anything in the reordering policy on location Y, updated to Order and re-did the order planning but it still produced the same result - it is suggesting the transfer order to replenish location X from location Y but not the PO to bring the inventory into location Y

RE: Order Planning - Multiple Locations

    Hi

What is Reordering Policy in Location Y? If you set that to Order do you get the result you want?

Note: if you set to Fixed Order QTY or Min/Max system only suggest purchase if you have less than setup. But Order generate PO based on Order.
