Multi-level explosion in Planning Optimization

Hello everyone,

I am facing an issue with Planning Optimization in D365 Finance and Operations related to the BOM/formula multi-level explosion.

I am using a formula that contains only raw materials (no semi-finished items, no co-products, no by-products, no phantom items).

All coverage settings, BOM versions, site validation, and formula activation have been verified.

However, I am experiencing the following behavior:

  • When I run Planning Optimization, the system creates a planned order for the finished good, but does not explode the lower levels of the formula (level 1 and level

  • When I open production order for the finished good and perform a manual explosion (Calculate), the system correctly generates the purchase requirements for all raw materials.

So the manual explosion works correctly, but Planning Optimization does not perform the multi-level explosion automatically during the master planning run.

Has anyone encountered this issue?

Is this a known limitation, a missing configuration, or related to Planning Optimization behavior with multi-level formulas?

Any guidance or confirmation from the community would be very helpful.

    Hi,

There is a parameter "Include all BOM levels" when you start Planning optimization:
If you don't have a filter set on an item number, that parameter is disabled but Planning optimization is calculating all BOM levels. If you set a filter, the toggle can be edited and needs to be set to Yes manually. If you run Planning optimization from a production order explosion, that toggle is enabled by default.

    Hi

    thank you

I have performed all these actions and have also tried applying filters in Master Planning, but it still does not work
