How to debug a calculated field

(0) ShareShare

I am investigating a bug in my system, I have a calculated field which is empty. I found out that one of the fields in the calculation is without a value, I fixed it and now all the fields used in the calculation are with a value. But even after my fix the calculated field is empty.

I don't understand why, is there a specific trigger to a calculation field like - will be changed only when a record is created and not when one of the fields has been changed?
one of the fields used in the calculation is on the form but not displayed does it matter ?
can I debug it ? how can I check and find the problem?

Will be happy to get some guidance about that topic.

    Hi,

will be changed only when a record is created and not when one of the fields has been changed?

We can not change the triggering event as its by design based on field value its calculate.

one of the fields used in the calculation is on the form but not displayed does it matter ?

Calculated field does not depends on whether field exists in the form or not.

can I debug it ? how can I check and find the problem?

There is no way to dubug , you need to check carefully if somewhere in other JS or Business rules you are assigning any value associated with calculated fields.

I would suggest reduce the steps of calculated field and check the results and then add another steps to see further impact.

    Hi,

Calculated field doesn't store any data in itself, these are just sql calculation which happen on retrieval of the record. It is a know issue that if any of teh value is blank then the calculation won't work.

    Hope this helps.
