Lot Numbering Versus Serial Numbering

Hi:

What are the differences in use between using Lot Numbers and Serial Numbers?

And, if using Serial Numbers, is there a way of having Business Central automatically assign serial numbers in the background for transactions rather than making the user do so?

    Hi, This is related to the company's business.
    For example, 100 belts, they are all produced in one batch, can be one lot number, the quantity is 100.
    Another example, 5 TV sets, their production serial numbers are different, you need to accurately get the serial number of each TV set, at this time you need to enter five serial numbers, each with a quantity of 1.

    As for automatically assigning numbers, I've made a tool before that I hope can give you some hints.

    Simple answer is quantity. Serial numbers are 1 and Lot numbers are unlimited. There is the Assign Serial Nos. in the Item Tracking Lines and that be customized to be done from the PO or Production Order to save a step or two
