Is it possible to change a product's product number?

A lot of our company's products' product numbers come from legacy numbering rules, making it difficult for us to identify and track products across different subcompanies.

We decide to implement a new unified numbering rules for products, but for that, we need to change the old product numbers to new one according to our rule, but we didn't find any ways to do that. 

Do you know a way to change the product number? Or do you suggest a different approach to this problem?

    Hi Marco M,

    You can update the product number.

    Product information management > Products > All products and product masters.

    Click on the product number which appears as a 'link'. It will take you inside the product detail.

    Then click on Change product number in the 'Maintain' section under 'Product'.

    And update the new number and click OK.

    Refresh the form now. New product number will be updated.

    I am using 10.0.30

    Hi Marco,

    The suggestion from Sourav is the correct one. Note that if you also have released products, you would need to perform the same task on the item number as well. The products and released products do have numbers which are independent stored of each other.

    Yes, I verified your method, and it's working as intended! However, this "Change product number" action only exists in detailed product view, not list view, does this imply that there's no way to batch change multiple product numbers?

    Currently yes it looks like that no batch load possible to update number for multiple products at a time.
