When I input a date range into Item Transaction Inquiry - I get the error message "Microsoft Dyamics GP is not responding"

Once I enter 03012011, it automatically puts in the ending date as 03/01/2011 and starts an endless processing.  When I try to close it, I have two options:  Close the program or wait for the program to respond.  I close the program and it just says that it will have Windows check for a solution.

We are using version 10.

Try entering your date range prior to selecting the item number.  I sort of recall this as a solution to the issue you're experiencing in this window.

Customer replied with "You are able to insert the dates then, but when you go to select the item, it’s the same result as before.  It keeps processing endlessly and gives the same message about trying to continue or closing the program."

Have you tried clicking the 'Sort by Date' checkbox first before specifying your criteria? There is one index on this table defined as Item Number, Site ID, Doc Date. I would try specifying your item, Docuemnts by Site and sort by date. Hopefully that will force it to use the index and you should have a better response time. How big is your Item Transaction History table?

    Hello all,

Like Richard, I wonder how large is the data set. What does your DexSql log and Script Profile show? You should be able to tell what is taking so long.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

The first thing that comes to mind with this issue is if the ODBC connection is staying active.  It sounds to me like the user is having issues connecting to the database to pull the data.  Does the user experience this behavior anywhere else?

    Regards,

    Aaron

Thank you everyone for your answers. Clicking the 'Sort by Date' checkbox first before specifying the criteria worked!  I appreciate your time and expertise!

I knew it was some non-intuitive action in this window that made the results populate faster.  Thanks Richard for the reminder . . .
