Does Archiving "Slow Down" Posting?

Hi:
 
After enabling the archiving of Sales Orders using Sales & Receivables Setup, posting a Sales Order slows down considerably.
 
When this function is disabled, posting returns to normal speed.
 
Is this standard behavior for archiving?

    You can use Performance Profile to check which process takes the longest. As far as I know, the biggest factor affecting posting time is automatic cost adjustment, not archiving.
