Warehouse only mode product variants Transfer orders.

In testing an environment set up for warehouse only mode we successfully process through purchase order / inbound shipment order items set up with a style variant (Named Type). However, on testing Transfer order / outbound shipment orders, after picking and shipping the inventory in the warehouse legal entity, on trying to process the External warehouse outbound shipment order updates the following error is occurring. Note non variant enabled items process with no error.

The variant item is set up in both legal entities and set up as shown in the Source system items

A transfer order was created and released to the warehouse creating an outbound shipment order

This creates the Outbound shipping order

This order was released and created pick work, which was completed, and shipment confirmed.

This created the Message processor message

The error message Is

Does the Variant need to be added to the message or is there any additional configuration to allow the processing of variants?
This item processes fine via a purchase order and inbound shipment order, with no issues on the similar Receive external warehouse inbound shipment order update.
Anyone with any experience with variants using warehouse only mode?
