Inventory Dimension (Serial number) size increase

Hello,

One of our client has the requirement of Serial number size to be 50, standard D365 supports only 20.

Did anyone deal with such requirement? We are looking for best practices and how can this be achieved? 

We tried to increase the EDT InventBatchSerialId in one of the DEV instances, but there were too many issues occurred due to this, On-hand has gone wrong system doesn't show the available quantity after the size increase and failed in processing receive Transfer order and Sales shipments. 

Any help is appreciated, Thanks in advance.

    I think there is no OOB function to reach that.

    Hi Krishna,

    You now have an experience where you see too many issues by changing the EDT. I suppose that a lot of internal variables are not aware of the size increase. You might check for each issue the root cause. Then you might find out that you can't fix it yourself as overlayering of standard coding is not allowed.

    I have never seen such large serial numbers. Can you tell more about why they have these lengthy serial numbers and about their process?
