For example, there are two contacts. Michael Smith and Mike Smith. Each contact has been in the CRM long enough so we have a lot of notes on each contact. We decide to merge the two contacts.

Upon merging the contacts, the time/date stamp is changed to todays date and the owner of every note is changed to my name.

Why is this happening?

The cascade rules on contact are causing this. By default they will be parental. If you want to stop this behaviour.

In contact, on 1:N relationships. Look for the relationship to notes. Change the cascade type to configurable cascade. Then change merge from cascade all to cascade none.

I can't change merge from cascade all to cascade none because this option is disable,after change the cascade type to configurable cascade.
