Consuming inventory items in production from pre-stocked work stations

Hello,

In our production environment we have two different zones in which inventory lives CAGE & MFG. MFG is the production floor and houses several workstations. The workstations have several bins that house screws, bolts, cables, etc. The workstations are stocked daily via warehouse movements at the beginning of each day.

When a production order is created a pick list is generated that includes a combination of items both need from CAGE and items that  are already available in MFG.

Is there a way to automatically move items that are available to Production IN and not appear on the pick list so that they can be consumed in the Production order, by using the identifier ZONE  - MFG? This way the warehouse crew does not confused when picking an order from CAGE as the items are already available at the Work Stations.

Or is there a better way to handle this that I'm missing.

Thanks,

Dustin

    Hi

I am glad that you asked this question. We have the similar case.

This is our current setup but I am looking for a better way as well.

We have SKU for finish parts then we set "Components at Location" in CAGE (to match your example).

Then for RAW parts either we have Transfer or Purchase. Purpose of Purchase is to order them direct and put them on the floor (MFG). The purpose of Transfer is to Transfer them from CAGE to Floor (MFG).

For "Transfer" RAW we have "Transfer-from Code" as CAGE. "Reordering Policy" set based on part. "Lot-for-Lot" for materials that we only want to move based on open production order. But "Fixed Reorder QTY" for other parts.

Then when we create production order we run Planning Worksheet for location MFG and then create Transfer Order and print it. This act as a Pick Ticket for CAGE and shows exactly parts that we need to transfer from CAGE to Floor (MFG). Our CAGE team pick and ship Transfer Order and receive it as well.

    Thanks

    Dustin,

Adding to MahGah reply... I wanted to add my handout that I give my customers on Cross-Docking setup and processing.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,

    Steve
