Hello Mary GH,
To integrate your Microsoft Dynamics CRM with Lync, I suggest you to use CTI for MS-CRM Integration.
It supports various version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM, including Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011.
About VoIP, this application is compatible with TAPI 2.1/3.0 and in your case Microsoft Lync. It can be integrated with Lync 2010 client and Lync Online LiveID and Office 365.
You can also find a lot of information on the official website www.lambertconsulting.ch/.../CTI_for_MS-CRM_Integration or on this You Tube channel ctiformscrm
A trial version of the tool can be downloaded there: www.lambertconsulting.ch/.../Download.aspx.
I hope it will help you.
There are several add-on solutions available. Here are a few as examples:
www.modalitysystems.com/.../crm-enhance
www.appvnet.com/.../lyncpop
pinpoint.microsoft.com/.../lyncpop-crm-and-lync-connector-12884930077
www.dorsetsoftware.com/unified_communications
We did this for our client :
When a call is made out of Lync or a call is received into Lync, the call dialog is opened , there will be two buttons added to this dialog. These buttons will only show (or be enabled) if the caller is found in CRM, Clicking these buttons would launch the corresponding CRM forms (standard URLs)

Mary:
We're using Lync Online wtih CRM Online. When I open a record in CRM, I can see presence for the Owner of that record who is also a user in Lync. This works great.
What other functionality were you looking for?

Lon
