Production BOM within Production BOM error

Hi there,

I am trying to create a production BOM within a production BOM but seem to be having some error.

Production BOM 1 UOM is BATCH.

Production BOM 2, when consuming Production BOM 1 I want the UOM to be KG. However whenever I select KG the following error occurs "Type must be equal to 'Item' in Production BOM Line: Production BOM No.=#B-000, Version Code=, Line No.=110000. Current value is 'Production BOM'."

Does anyone have any idea why?

Thank you.

    Hello,

Yes, that is true. You have a Phantom BOM that on has a Unit of Measure = Batch. Items can have different UOM and conversions. You would have to setup the Item UOM conversion from BATCH to KG, for the BOM 2 Item. I hope BOOM 2 is a real Item. If not, you have no basis for Item UOM conversion.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

Both BOM 1 and BOM 2 are items in the system. As BOM 1's item may be sold individually as well as be a component of BOM 2.

I have set up the UOM conversion for both BOM 1 and BOM 2, however system still gave me that error.

If UOM selected is BATCH there isn't an issue, only when I attempt to change it to KG will the error occur.

    Hello,

When you are adding the Item for BOM 1, which you current have set to BATCH, why are you changing it on the BOM Component Line? It will appear as BATCH and the Item Unit of Measure Conversion will convert BATCH to KG. You will see the converted quantity when you create a Production Order.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

I am changing the UOM from BATCH to KG because one BATCH for example has 6.5KG, however, in BOM 2 I only need 320 GRAMS, hence keeping it as a BATCH is difficult calculations wise.

    Hello,

I follow you. However, this is what the Item UOM conversion does. Sometimes you don't have an exact conversion but this is the process. You convert the Item that has the Batch BOM to KG and you see the conversion in the Prod. Order Component lines.

    Thanks,

    Steve

You would want to create a third Production BOM.

Prod. BOM 3 UOM is KG.  Adjust the BOM to match what would be in the different weight.

In Prod. BOM 2 you would select Prod. BOM 3 as the phantom, which will allow you to enter Qty based on KG rather than Batch.

Prod. BOM 3 does not have to be associated with the Item Prod. BOM 1 makes, so it will not impact your ability to create the Item in Batch.
