Product Lookup View not finding partial text strings within an order product

I'm trying to add a new Order Product, but when I click on the Lookup View, it only finds products where I know the starting characters.  Some of our parts, we want to find by 4 characters in the middle of the Product Name string.  We already have Full-Text indexing on.  I can find what I'm looking for in Advanced Find, but not from the order.  We are on CRM 2016 on-premise, update 1 (not SP1).

    Hello,

Try to include * on the start of search like:

    Search by *thing will

    that thing

    this thing

    something

Hi, when did you enable full-text? I am wondering if it could be one of those issues you need to consider according to this page:

We've tried with * everywhere.  According to what I've read, CRM 2016 ignores them anyway.

We've had it on since we went live on CRM2016.  I also tried turning off the Quick Find limits (which is 10k records).  Our product master has over 11k products.  I made the change on a Friday then checked again on a Monday, since I know the indexing runs overnight.

It's the way FullText searches work on CRM/SQL.  It can do stemming but doesn't spot character sequences in the middle of a sequence.  Using a filter on the appropriate view may be the quickest way to find the entries.  If most of your searches are partial matches and you don't really need linguistic searches then perhaps switch off the full text.
