Export to Excel Limit of 10,000 Rows

I found this article http://www.powerobjects.com/blog/2010/03/29/increase-the-maximum-records-exported-to-excel/.

The writer says you can up the 10k limit for exporting to Excel by updating the column:

[MaxRecordsForExportToExcel]

from the table, [OrganizationBase].

I would like to do this but everybody keeps telling me that we should not do updates directly in the DB via SQL.

Any thoughts?  Thanks.

Joe

    Joe,

I have done this procedure many times...the procedure is not supported/recommended (just like unsigned drivers) by Microsoft. But it works.

If you decide to do it, don't pick a number higher than 80,000. Trust me on this one (IE Time outs issues will begin).

    Good Luck!

As an old fashion SQL guy there are so many things I would like to in this DB that are simple SQL updates.  Like updating custom fields created by me creating new entities but MS says no.  Ugh!  I am light on dot net stuff but I am loading VS2010 and the CRM SDK so that I can learn how to update it that way.  Thanks for your post.  I might update the value to 25k or so.

    Joe,

Microsoft doesn't say "Don't do it", they just say "We don't support/encourage it".

Just like updating the Registry...have you ever seen Microsoft supporting/encouraging that?

Sometimes you just need to make direct changes to the registry to fix stuff up...you just need to "be careful" take a backup, etc.

Do the same in this case!

    Good Luck!

I just made the change but it didn't take.  Do I need to restart the server?

    Maybe just restart IIS.

And also Restart the Microsoft Dynamics Async Services on the CRM Server.

    Hey Joe,

Rather than making the low-level change to up the 10k limit system wide, if your requirement is limited to a single (or a few) dynamic excel reports, then you can update the SQL Query embedded in the Excel document (which specifies the default 10,000 limit) to the number you require.

This way you're not opening up the entire solution to massive adhoc queries which could impact performance.

Re: Export to Excel Limit of 10,000 Rows

    Hi,

Direct modification to the database is not recommended and is also not supported by Microsoft. If there is a limit that has been set for this it has already been tested and verified by Microsoft. Modification to those settings may help you to achieve this requirement but it might cause some other issue in your deployment.

If this is test environment and you have complete backup of the database. You may try this step and monitor your for some days to make sure other things are working as expected.

    Thanks,

    Mohammad
