Item Attributes in Orders - Manufacturing

Hi all,

We are after the possibility of being able to choose item attributes (colors, size, finish type etc..) for orders in manufacturing - is this possible in Business Central?

Example for a company that manufactures chairs - is it possible that at order stage we select the specific chair as item and then specify that the colour should be black and finish type should be gloss? Which this will in turn provide us with the proper BOM and price?

I understand that this sounds more like product configuration (CPQ) but I was wondering how close to this we can get by using standard Business Central?

Thanks in advance!

I have the same question (0)

Would take considerable design and then development effort. There are numerous cpq extensions on app source which might give you the head start needed or some inspiration on your own design

    Y A,

Adding to Josh's reply... Your CPQ process you could use Variants and create every combination of the Variant to include on the Order and Production Order. Now the downside is that you cannot create a BOM by Variant. I would recommend you look at I have used CPQ Configurators to meet this requirement for my customers. You should look at Insight Works Configurator - www.dmsiworks.com/.../

    Thanks,

    Steve

    Hi

As other mentioned you can use variant or CPQ. Steve recommended one which works great and it is the less complex CPQ. Of course you can go to more complex such as https://www.experlogix.com/

Other option is too look into e-commerce with CPQ such as  https://www.cloudfy.com/ if you have interest to have webstore.

If you decided to use item variant starting BC 18.5 you can define specific BOM for Item Variant (different BOM/Routing for each variant).

    docs.microsoft.com/.../variant-code-added-production-order-header-plus-limited-support-production-boms-routes-stockkeeping-units

Basically you add item variants to item card. Then you create stockkeeping for each variants and now you can add a different BOM and routing for each variant ( they are not available by default and you need to add them by personalization). This way you can utilize variants.
