CRM 2016 and SQL 2016 Updates

Hello All,

If we're deploying CRM 2016 with SQL 2016 Standard edition, my understanding is we need to be on SQL 2016 RTM CU2 to be in a supported state.

What is Microsoft's guidance with regards to subsequent CU's for SQL 2016?  Are we supposed to stay on CU2 to run CRM 2016?  If so we need to block installation of subsequent CU's that come down via Windows Update.  That sounds messed-up to me!

Thanks,

D.

You should be able to update to a higher release then CU2. This is the minimal requirement for SQL 2016. Usually higher versions will be backwards compatible unless specifically specified.

    Hi Syed,

Are these minimum or exact requirements?

For example would I be able to use SQL 2016 CU3?  This is what I'm trying to find out.

If I'm using SQL 2016, is CU2 MANDATORY or is a more recent CU ok?

    Thanks,

    D.

Hi Syed, thanks for this link.

    From the article:

We are now recommending proactive, ongoing install of Cumulative Updates. Read more on the ISM model in blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/.../announcing-updates-to-the-sql-server-incremental-servicing-model-ism.

...But for CRM 2016 we need to stay on SQL 2016 CU2?

    Thanks,

    D.
