How to setup dual cable scanner/scale (Datalogic Magellan 8400)

Hi community,

I am having problems in setting up Datalogic Magellan 8400. The POS has only one serial port so I plugged scale's cable into a Serial Port-to-USB adaptor. I installed the OPOS Driver (DR9610415.msi) and run the DualTest.exe to test the condition of the scale and the scanner. The scanners can be opend-claimed-enabled and read the barcode but the scale can be opened-claimed-enabled and then can't read the weight.

I also enabled the scale (Registers List-->Properties-->Scale tab, with OPOS device name ServiceOPOS.dll) and the scanner (Registers List-->Properties-->Scanner tab, with OPOS device name ServiceOPOS.dll) and I also copied the ServiceOPOS.dll file to the OPOSDrivers folder.

Right now I am stuck so any help could be appreciated a lot!

Thanks in advance,

E.T.

Are you testing with a weighted item...

Do you get an error message about claiming or runtime error when you start the POS program?

OPOS name under RMS Manager is not the name of the dll.  It is the OPOS Device Name.

Thanks for the response Ed. I tested with a weighted item and I got a Weight Timeout Error. I also changed the OPOS Device Name.

I've searched for it in the registry and also in the DualTest (additional program to check the connectivity of the scale/scanner with the pos) and the scale doesn't appear as connected. So I can't check whether the problem is RMS-related. I am afraid it is a hardware problem (FYI: I tested two different Magellan 8400 scales/scanners in two different POS and PCs).

Is there anyone who knows whether Datalogic Magellan 8400 is compatible with Microsoft Dynamics RMS?

RE: How to setup dual cable scanner/scale (Datalogic Magellan 8400)

If you only have one serial port, I suggest you to program the Magellan 8400 using a single cable configuration.  There are only 4 steps for you to program the Magellan 8400 scanner/scale to run on a single cable.  You need to copy 4 barcodes in the manual and scan one by one through the scanner without any cables connected to the scale/scan

    1. Reset the manufactury setting barcode

    2. Switch program barcode

    3. Single cable barcode

    4. Scale barcode enable.

That is all for you to program the Magellan Scanner/Scale.

Download and install the program in pos system and configure from there.

Thanks Hai Lam for your response. That's what the Datalogic distributor also told me. I'll test this and see if it fanctures properly with RMS. I'll let you know.

RE: How to setup dual cable scanner/scale (Datalogic Magellan 8400)

I followed the instructions of Hai Lam and the scale/scanner works OK in the DualTest, I can enable the scale and the scanner and weight and scan items with one cable only!

But  the problem is NOT solved for me. When I ring up an item in RMS it doesn't appear the actual item look up code (barcode) of the item. For example if the actual barcode is 5201946010022 in RMS-POS I get S085201946010022 and the item could not be found.

In the DualTest the scanner returns 2 fields of data after ringing up an item. The first is: "Raw Data"=5201946010022  & the second is: "Data"=S085201946010022

So it seems like taking the "Data" field instead of the "Raw Data". I experimenting also with the properties "ScanDataEqualsScanDataLabel" and "UPCEANScanDigitCalc" checking all possible combinations of 0 and 1 and  in the regedit, but it doesn't work.

Does anyone had the same problem or knows how to fix that? Please share!

RE: How to setup dual cable scanner/scale (Datalogic Magellan 8400)

You program the scanner somehow it is reading the prefix code.

    Try to do these:

    Scan the reset manufacture barcode

    Scan the Switch Label

Scan the Single Cable Interface Barcode Rs232

    Scan the switch label again.

Unplug the power and hook up all cables back

    Reboot the scanner/scale

Run the Magellan program and make sure your configurations for com port is correct for both scanner and scale to matching with the scanner/scale setup.  It is depending on the version of software you are using.  If you are using the latest version of Magellan.  You have to reading the instruction to change the setup up in the registry.  If you run the older version then it is easy to change the setup of rs232 baud rate, stop bit, and parity to matching between computer and scanner/scale.

    Good luck!

Note: unhook all cables before programs.

RE: How to setup dual cable scanner/scale (Datalogic Magellan 8400)

    Hi,

This is the closet issue to my issue that I found all around the internet, therefore I'm posting here.

I have Magellan 8300 that is connected to windows 10 PC (not a POS), I don't have any serial port (just USB). the Barcode Scaner is connected with a cable of RJ45 to USB to the PC, the scale also is connected with another cable of RJ45 to USB.

The scanner works and the Scale doesn't. DualTest report a timeout when try to claim and weight with MagellanCS.

I'ts my first time to work with this platform so I don't know what is the problem and my I have no knowledge in this filed.

    can any one advise?

    thanks in advance
