Direct Project Access Through Accounts Receivable

In business central, is it possible to tag a project on a Sales Invoice without having to prepare a planning line first.  In this case I just want to record a sale against a project.  I'm not doing any invoicing from the project itself.

Look forward to a response.

    Hello,

Yes you can add a Job (Project) directly on a Sales Invoice line without creating planning lines.
Just fill Job No. and Job Task No. and post. That’s all.

    Hello,

Business Central does not allow you to simply tag a project (job) on a standard Sales Invoice without using planning lines because the Jobs module is designed to link revenue and costs through project planning lines for proper ledger tracking.

If you want to record a sale against a project without invoicing from the project, the standard workaround is to use Job Journals to post revenue manually or create the invoice via the Get Project Planning Lines feature.

There’s no built-in option to add a project number directly on a normal Sales Invoice for job reporting without customization.

Jainam is correct, out-of-the-box you cannot manually add the Project No and Project Task No values to a Sales Invoice line.  While you can add the fields to the Sales Invoice line, you will not be able to edit the fields.  You could write an Extension to be able to accomplish this goal.

Other comments are correct that you can't add the Project to a Sales Invoice. This is meant to be driven through the Project module. Projects technically replace the Sales Quote and Order documents.

As an alternative approach, some Dynamics users I work with opt to not even use the project module and instead create a Project dimension that they tag to transactions. This only works if you want to stop using the project module. There are two limiations with this approach - (1) you can't easily budget out projects and (2) you won't have access to WIP calculations and postings. So it's up to you on the approach you want to take.

No you cannot, and also even if you do so with any customization the relation may break.
With planning when it is triggered it maintains an additional field known as project contract number.
So I will say follow the process and the trigger the invoice from the project/planning interface only.
