Backup Evidence for Business Central Online Environment

Our client's auditors are requesting proof of how backups are handled in the Business Central production environment. They are specifically asking for backup logs or screenshots as evidence.

I’ve reviewed the system (Admin center) and couldn’t find any user-accessible backup logs. I’ve already shared Microsoft’s standard backup policy documentation, but the auditors are still not satisfied.

Could you please confirm if there’s any way to access or extract backup-related logs or metadata? If not, I believe the next step would be to raise a support ticket with Microsoft for formal confirmation.

I think you'll need to create an MS ticket and then you can schedule a Teams meeting to answer his questions.

    Hello,

In Business Central SaaS, backups are fully managed by Microsoft, and there is no user access to backup logs or metadata through the Admin Center or any other interface. Since auditors are requesting evidence beyond Microsoft’s standard backup policy documentation, the best next step is to raise a support ticket with Microsoft requesting formal confirmation of the backup process, including retention and compliance details, which can then be shared as audit evidence.

Hope this will help you to resolve it!

    Regards,

Hi, Although it is not a log, if it can be restored from the admin center, it means that the backup has been successful.

You can also periodically test whether you can restore.

    Thanks.

You don't get access to the logs because everything is being handled by Microsoft.

You can probably raise a support ticket asking for evidence.

Another way is to follow what YunZhu said.
Since you can restore to a point in time, it means there is backup being taken.
You can try to restore and confirm that the restoration is successful.

There is no user-accessible backup log in Business Central Online. Microsoft handles backups automatically as per their backup policy. For audit purposes, you should raise a support ticket with Microsoft to request formal confirmation or documentation.
