Application Server email error

We are running Microsoft Dynamics SL 2011 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 and using Outlook 2010. We have setup the Application Server to send out Purchase Orders via email. However when the vendors email in of the format "firstname.lastname@companyname.com we get the following error:

The following document was not delivered electronically:
PO     PO       PO            Vendor                 PO         PO      Delivery
Nbr    Date     Type          ID     Vendor Name     Status     Amt     Method
------ -------- ------------- ------ --------------- ---------- ------- --------
000069 7/3/2012 Regular Order 6178   XXXXXXXXXXXX Open Order $197.84 E-mail

Reason: The email to the receiver could not be created in Microsoft Outlook because the receiver's email address is in an invalid format - xxxx.xxxxxxx@xxxxxxxxxx.com

now the format of the email is perfectly valid and the problem seems to the the period between the first and last name but this format is becoming more and more comman with vendors so this is becoming more and more of a problem. Has anyone found a fix or workaround for this.

This bug (23560) is fixed in sp1 for 2011 and there's a hotfix for 2011 (plain) found here:

"The email to receiver could not be created in Microsoft Outlook because the receiver's email address is in an invalid format" error when you submit a report to "Application Server (96.010.00)" in Microsoft Dynamics SL
