Our company is trying to standardize our shop supply description to make searching more accurate. Currently, we are working through creating an description generator using Solidworks EPDM. Basically it is a screen with item characteristics that are filled in, then concatenated into the description in a certain order. I'm wondering if there is a product out there that will allow for searching on these individual characteristic outside of the description using GP. I would like to remove them from the EPDM software and just house them in GP. Currently we are creating new items in EPDM, which are in turn created in GP manually. Once the description is created and approved it will upload into GP via an XML. I think that this would be much more simple to have them enter and search for shop supply items just through GP.

One idea that I was told about is EDI, where it would download the vendor catalog and bring in the description to GP.

Any other ideas?

You might want to take a look at Smartfill by Rockton Software. I am not 100% sure it will meet your need but is probably worth a look.
